Almost every new client comes to me asking for a logo. I get it. A logo feels like the official start of being real. But here's the truth I wish someone had told them sooner: a logo is a symbol. A brand is a feeling.
Think about the businesses you love. You don't love them because of a mark on a coffee cup. You love how they make you feel: seen, calm, excited, understood. That feeling didn't happen by accident. It was designed. That's the work.
What a brand actually is
Your brand is the sum of every touchpoint: the words you choose, the colors you repeat, the energy in your captions, how fast you reply, what it feels like to pay you. When all of that says the same thing, people trust you before they can explain why.
A logo gets you recognized. A brand gets you remembered.
Three signs yours is out of alignment
- You describe your business differently every time someone asks. If the message changes daily, there is no message yet.
- Your feed looks like five different businesses. Beautiful posts that don't belong together still read as noise.
- You attract the wrong inquiries. Price shoppers and mismatched clients are usually a positioning problem, not a people problem.
A small ritual to start
Before you touch fonts or colors, write down five words you want people to feel after meeting your brand. Not words that describe you. Words they feel. Then look at your last ten posts, your bio, your website. Do they create those feelings? Whatever doesn't, that's your first edit.
This is what I mean when I say branding is alchemy. The raw material was always there. You're just transmuting it into something the world can finally see.
The universe is your canvas.
